US Commits $116 Million in Humanitarian Assistance for Myanmar, Prompting Rapid Reaction from Bangladesh

In a statement on Thursday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that the United States is allocating an extra $116 million in humanitarian aid for Myanmar, Bangladesh, and the neighboring areas to aid Rohingya refugees who escaped Myanmar. This additional funding brings the total U.S. assistance for those impacted by the Myanmar crisis and its ripple effects in Bangladesh and the region to over $2.2 billion. This commitment has been ongoing since August 2017, when more than 740,000 Rohingya fled genocide.
