Citing "security threats" that have impacted operations at its diplomatic missions in Canada, India made this move. India has strongly denied these accusations, terming them "baseless". Speaking at the UN General Assembly in New York, Trudeau emphasized the significance of continued collaboration with India, stating that the intention wasn't to antagonize but to uphold the rule of law. The current diplomatic friction is seen as a significant low in the relationship between these two nations, both of which are key trade and security allies of the US. India clarified that this visa suspension also affects Canadians outside of Canada. Due to threats to its embassy and consulates in Canada, the standard operations have been disturbed, leading to the pause in visa processes, as stated by an official from India's foreign affairs ministry.
