On Sunday, a tragic incident occurred in northern Mexico as the roof of a church collapsed, resulting in the loss of at least 10 lives and leaving two individuals in critical condition, according to official reports. Initial information suggests that approximately 100 people were present inside the Ciudad Madero church when the collapse took place, as stated by security services in the state of Tamaulipas. It is believed that 30 individuals may be trapped beneath the debris, as reported by Reuters. Moreover, at least 60 people sustained injuries during the incident, with two of them suffering severe injuries, as confirmed by a spokesperson for Tamaulipas security. Multiple agencies, including the National Guard, State Guard, Civil Protection, and the Red Cross, are actively involved in the ongoing rescue efforts. Bishop Jose Armando Alvarez, representing the diocese of Tampico, recounted that the church's roof caved in while worshipers were partaking in communion, as per Reuters. He appealed to the wider community to offer prayers for the survivors. Bishop Armando conveyed, "At this moment, essential efforts are underway to extract those still trapped beneath the wreckage," in a recorded message shared on social media, as reported by Reuters.
